Husain Lawai | CE – IBP

Mr. Husain Lawai is a seasoned banker having vast experience in the banking and financial services industry. He is the Chief Executive of The Institute of Bankers Pakistan and also the Vice Chairman of Summit Bank Limited.

Mr. Lawai is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited (PSX). Additionally, he is on the Board of Directors of Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance, GlaxoSmithkline Pakistan Limited, Wyeth Pakistan Limited and The Searle Company Limited.

Apart from his current corporate sector engagements, Mr. Lawai has served as Chairman, Board of Directors of Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan and Sanofi- Aventis Pakistan Limited.

On the banking side, he was the first President and CEO of MCB Bank Limited, after its privatization in 1991 and served for six years. He was President and CEO of Summit Bank Limited from 2008 till his retirement in 2016.

He is credited with being a key enabler of the local Islamic banking system through the formation of Faysal Islamic Bank (now known as Faysal Bank Limited), the first Islamic Shariah compliant Bank of Pakistan and Regional General Manager of Emirates NBD Bank, for Pakistan and Far East. He was also a Director of Security Investment and Finance Limited U.K.and Advisor to several UK & European banks.

A staunch promoter of education, he is also a member of Board of Governors of Karachi Grammar School and he served on the Board of Governors of Virtual University of Pakistan.

He holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.

Faisal Hussain | Director - Academic Operations

Mr. Faisal Hussain has over eighteen-years of experience in various areas, Academics, Business Strategy, Operations & Technology, Human Resources and management roles. His experience has been working with financial sector, educational institutions and FMCG. He entered the Academic field in 2001 as a Visiting Faculty Member and part time facilitator for courses at universities and professional levels. Mr. Hussain holds a Master’s Degree from University of Karachi and Train the Trainer, Instructional Designing, Training Need Analysis & Course Customization and Training of Assessors from IFC (International Finance Cooperation) – A World Bank Group and Certified Training Professional (CTP) from FAA (Finance & Accreditation Agency) – Malaysia, Instructional Designing from CAMI (Carlton Advanced Management Institute). He has attended leadership courses from Mckinsey Academy and Bangor University. He holds PRINCE2 ® Practitioner Project management certification along with various learning & technology based certifications. Besides his keen focus on the Academic Operations he has rolled out various other initiatives, which include electronic and blending learning through eILM (electronic IBP’s Learning Management), Online Assessments, Customer Response Center and monthly Seminars on various current financial industry based topics etc. for the Institute of Bankers Pakistan.

Khawlah Usman | Director – Business

Ms. Khawlah is a passionate Marketeer & zealous Brand Strategist with over 16 years of profound experience in Advertising and Integrated Marketing. She has turned around businesses and brands in stagnant markets and challenging environments. She has been successful in creating a strong culture of innovation in products and communications in businesses. Her proven leadership skills have helped consistently build brands, businesses and people. She has taken brands ranging from FMCG’s to Financial institutions to new heights.

She has been associated with institutions like Publicist Pakistan, Manhattan Leo Burnett, MCB Bank, ABN Amro, The Royal Bank of Scotland Limited and Silkbank Limited.

She is a Certified trainer from International Finance Corporation (IFC) & IMS knowledge. She has been successfully conducting trainings on Marketing, Strategy formulation, Product development and Business Process Re-engineering-BPR. She carries an experience of over 12 years in imparting trainings.

Ms. Khawlah has received various awards like ‘Outstanding performer’ for three consecutive years in MCB bank. She was awarded Rebranding Champion in three banks- ABN Amro, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Silkbank. She was also awarded ‘Best Train the Trainer Award’ and ‘Best BPR Award’ for the launch of Instant Account Opening Form at Silkbank.

At IBP, she is responsible for strategy formulation & business generation in keeping with the vision of IBP. During her stay at IBP she has already successfully devised and implemented the ‘Rebirth of IBP strategy’; relaunched ISQ, launched IBP school, launched Certified General Banker program, conducted HR forum, relaunch of Omega, simulcasted Lead 2016 and Gender and Diversity Conference to name a few. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of IBP.

Arsalan Aftab | Director Academics & Examinations

Mr. Arsalan Aftab is a Fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan, with articleship completed from KPMG Taseer Hadi & Company, Chartered Accountants. He carries 19 years of diversified experience of Audit, Compliance, Finance and Examinations. He is responsible for the Academic and Examination functions of the Institute. Prior to joining Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP), he was associated with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), Sindh Government (World Bank funded project) and Pakistan Stock Exchange in various capacities.

Kamran Hashmi | CFO & Company Secretary

Mr. Kamran Hashmi is serving at The Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP) as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary.

Mr. Hashmi has over twelve years of experience at leading positions, having role in strategic planning, financial and management reporting, investments, taxation and audit. He has worked in different capacities as CFO, Company Secretary, General Manager and Head of Finance in well-known organizations of Financial Sector and Healthcare businesses.

To his credit goes launching of the online trading platform at Vector Capital (Pvt.) Limited and IGI Finex Securities Limited in the capacity CFO & Head of Finance respectively.

He is a Fellow Member of Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of Pakistan (FCMA), Associate Member of Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan (CMFD) and has Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Karachi.

Farooq Shaikh | Advisor

Mr. Farooq Shaikh has diverse global banking experience of over 40 years, having worked for different banks in Pakistan, Oman, Bahrain, U.K. and Hong Kong. He holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi. Overseas, he has addressed several international banking seminars and also participated in various forums, including Asian Development Bank, IIF/World Bank meetings.

Dr. Amin Rehmani | Director Product Development and Pedagogy

Dr. Rehmani has considerable experience in areas of curriculum planning and development, teaching, learning, assessment, examination, teacher education, quality assurance and training and development. Has teaching experience at various levels of instruction; he has conducted trainings in teacher education and pedagogy, curriculum studies, evaluation and assessment issues, formative and summative assessment, portfolio assessment, and test development and item writing. As a resource person for Higher Education Commission for Pakistan, he designed and conducted workshops on testing and assessment to train master trainers of higher education institutions in Pakistan.

Prior to joining IBP, he worked with Aga Khan University Examination Board as a Manager training and quality assurance and AKU Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) as a research associate.  Recently he was working in Tanzania as a Director Academic Affairs. He has rejoined IBP as Director Product Development and Pedagogy. He is a PhD from University of London in Education. He has a number of publications available at and AKU e-Commons.
